Pokémon GO continues to surprise its
players! Most recently, Niantic has officially announced the increase from 50
to 80 for the Trainer level in the game. This is one of the greatest updates
for the popular game ever since its launch. It comes near the 10th
anniversary of the game in 2026, a valuable gift for millions of global
Trainers.
Anticipating users worldwide will be
pleased to know that in less than a month, they will get to experience the new
level cap. Pokémon GO Level 80 cap is set to be launched on October 15, 2025.
From then on, the trainers will move beyond level 50, witness rebalanced XP
requirements to make leveling more pleasurable. However, Pokémon themselves
will be unchanged, maxing out at level 50. Niantic also explained that combat
power multipliers (CPM) are unaffected, due to which Trainers will still be
required to reach level 40 to move any Pokémon to its maximum strength.
Pro tip: Grinding all the way to level 80 can take hours, and nothing kills the vibe faster than a dead battery. I have been using this powerbank, and it keeps my phone charged through even the longest sessions! #ad
In this new update, Niantic is also
rebalancing how XP works in the game. Players may notice ease in completing
earlier levels with frequent milestones. Tasks associated with levels 41 to 50
may be phased out with new research quests for leveling up from levels 71-80.
The new tasks will help high-level Trainers experience unique challenges to
keep the spark of the game alive.
There will also be improved rewards for
leveling up. Increased storage space for Pokémon, gifts, and items with sleek
avatar outfits from level 25 onward. The Pokémon GO update 2025 aims to make
each level milestone more fun and rewarding.
With the new update, Trainer level may
shift automatically as Niantic will convert the existing hard-earned XP to the
newly created progression system. Rest assured, you will not lose the XP you
earned. However, the amount needed to reach the next level may be different due
to the revamped system. The studio ensured they would share further information
regarding conversion notes as the date for the update approaches.
A significant deadline for the Pokémon GO update 2025 is October 14, 2025. After
this date, cosmetic rewards that are associated with levels 40 to 50 will be
gone. These include level-50 pose and avatar jackets.
For those players who have unlocked these
rewards already, they will keep them for life. But for those who haven't yet
achieved these rewards before the deadline will no longer have the chance to
gain them.
To celebrate the efforts and hard work of
players, Niantic promises to distribute a commemorative badge to each Trainer.
This medal will reflect each player’s greatest level achieved before the new
system.

that asked players to walk 25km each week on eight different occasions to only
two separate occasions.
The XP Celebration Event is not all.
