After the initial announcement last month, Niantic has revealed more details about the upcoming first-ever Electric-type-themed event: Charge Up. This is not the first time when Pokémon of a single type enjoy a special spotlight in Pokémon GO. The previous similar events include Psychic Spectacular and Bug Out. The Charge Up event will focus on catching, evolving, and powering up Electric-type Pokémon.
The Charge Up event will run from Tuesday, March 16, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. to Monday, March 22, 2021, at 8:00 p.m. local time.
During the event, Tynamo along with its
evolutionary family, Eelektrik and Eelektross, will be making its Pokémon GO
debut. Mega Manectric will also debut in Mega Raids for the first time in
Pokémon GO, along with Therian Forme Thundurus in Legendary Raids.
Tynamo, an electric-type Pokémon from the Unova region will require 25 candies to evolve into Eelektrik and 100 candies and an Unova stone to evolve into Eelektross. Luckily, the event bonus will be an increased chance of receiving Evolution items when opening Gifts. If you don’t have a spare Unova stone, make sure to open your gifts and spin as many PokéStops as you can to get the chance to evolve Tynamo into its final form.
Along with Tynamo, other Electric-type Pokémon will be appearing more frequently in the wild, including Alolan Geodude, Voltorb, Electrike, Stunfisk, and more.
During the event, Pichu, Elekid, Electrike, Shinx, Joltik, Tynamo, and Stunfisk will be hatching from 5 km Eggs.
One-star raids will feature Voltorb, Shinx, Blitzle, Klink, and Tynamo. Alolan Raichu, Alolan Graveler, Magneton, and Ampharos will be appearing in three-star raids. And, as mentioned, Therian Forme Thundurus will be appearing for the first time in five-star raids.
During the event, Trainers will get the
chance to complete Timed Research focused on evolving and powering up
Electric-type Pokémon. Event-exclusive Field Research tasks will reward Poké
Balls, Ampharos Mega Energy, Manectric Mega Energy, encounters with
Electric-type Pokémon, and more.
Niantic has announced a new referral program coming to Pokémon GO for the first time. Not much has been disclosed yet on the details of the program, but once the feature is rolled out, you can refer a friend to start playing Pokémon GO, whether they will be playing for the first time or coming back to the game after a break, they will receive special rewards, such as Pokémon encounters, Rare Candy, Incubators, and more as they advance in their adventure—and so will you.
The referral program will be first tested
in Australia. Trainers in Australia will be the first to receive referral codes
that they can share with friends. More information will soon be revealed about the
exciting new program.
Niantic has announced a collaboration between Pokémon GO and the Pokémon Trading Card Game to mark the 25th anniversary of Pokémon.

The card will be obtainable in regions around the world where the Pokémon TCG is sold.
More details on how to get the card in different parts of the world, as well as the art and content of the Professor Willow card, will be announced later in May 2021.
